Rachel Weisserman ran the Spirit Spit Open Mic at Spirit of Hope for approximately a year, and has been frequently seen at open mics all over the metropolitan Detroit area, reading her poems about Barbie dolls and werewolves. At the age of 15, she wrote a monthly column for Stuff Magazine. Under the name of R.W. Whitefield, she has written several adult-themed short stories and a novella for the Forbidden Fiction publishing imprint. She is currently the head writer for the upcoming TV show “UnVeiled,” which follows the life of a college student as she discovers her true path and joins a coven of witches.
“I believe that open mics are a crucial part of any creative community. They’re a place to gain confidence, share your work, make new friends, and enjoy unique performances you’ll never hear on the radio. It’s also a great way to gain confidence in front of an audience! An open mic can take place anywhere; it can have hundreds of people who want to take part, or just be you and a few of your friends. I want to show ConClave attendees how to enjoy and create the atmosphere and community of an open mic!
